Coleman is a small city located in central Texas, on the edge of what's known as the Texas Mid-West Region. This is an area where hunting and fishing are major industries of the towns and cities located here. The population of Coleman is approximately 5,100 residents. The town of Coleman is also rich in other natural resources such as ranching, farming, coal, gas and oil. Due to the fact that Coleman is also surrounded by several bodies of water, tourism is another resource for the town. Six major lakes are nearby; Lake Coleman, lvie Reservoir, Lake Scarborough, Memory Lake, Lake Santa Anna, and Hords Creek. Lake Coleman is about 13 miles north of town. It has a surface area of 2,000 acres and has a rocky shoreline with lots of points and ledges. The species of fish found in Lake Coleman are largemouth bass, white crappie, hybrid striped bass, channel catfish and flathead catfish. Hords Creek Lake is also near the town of Coleman. It provides flood control in the whole West Texas area, and offers fishing, boating and camping. Coleman also has a city park located on the banks of Hords Creek. It's a lovely natural area with large shade trees and open space. The grounds of the park also includes a western museum, tennis courts, a playground, recreation center and an Olympic-sized pool.
