Port-Mansfield is a small community located on the shores of Laguna Madre in the southern tip of Texas. The population is approximately 400 full-time residents. Port Mansfield is quiet, peaceful and very scenic, an affordable semi-tropical getaway. It's about a twenty-minute drive east of Raymondville, Texas and offers a protected harbor for watercraft, as well as a runway for small aircraft. Port Mansfield offers excellent fishing and birding. The area boasts more than 480 species of birds, which makes it one of the premier birding spots in the United States. The Laguna Madre is home to abundant species of fish, as well, especially redfish, speckled trout, sand trout, and flounder. It's easy to fish the shallow waters of the laguna by small boat, wading into the waters, or cast fishing from the shore. There is also a fishing pier in the county park. If you want, you can instead charter a boat at the Gulf of Mexico, which is only nine miles from Port Mansfield. There you can fish for the larger species, such as marlin, kingfish, mackerel, red snapper, tarpon or sailfish. Port Mansfield has been described by sports editors as "one of the best fishing areas in the country." The Lower Laguna Madre is also known for its' duck hunting.

Port Mansfield Weather & Climate

The southern tip of Texas has a semi-arid climate. This region is the southernmost tip of the American Great Plains Region. Subtropical forests line the Rio Grande River, and ranches dominate the landscape inland. Summers are generally hot and dry but at times can be humid if winds come off the warmer Gulf of Mexico. Rain is more abundant in the coastal regions than inland. Occasionally in winter a strong front can come through, bringing light snow at sea level. The winters in the inland region are cold and dry as Arctic sweeps downward. Snow is a rare occurrence due to the lack of humidity in winter. Tornadoes can occur in this region, but less frequent than in other parts of the state.
