Dripping-Springs
is located in Hays County in central Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,788 people. Dripping Springs is a small, sleepy little town with a slow pace of life, set in the midst of the Texas Hill Country. Dripping Springs was founded in 1853 by a group of families that traveled from Mississippi to settle in Texas. The town was named for the natural springs located in the heart of Dripping Springs. It became a stagecoach stop and later a stop on the railroad that ran between Austin and Fredericksburg. There's lots to enjoy in the area, from visiting local vineyards and wineries, sightseeing, and outdoor recreation. Museums include the Dr. Pound Pioneer Farmstead Historical Museum that is housed in a home built in 1854 by Dr. J. M. Pound. The springs, for which the town is named, is located near the west end of Mercer Street, and marked by a granite marker. Other places to visit in town include the original first school of Dripping Springs, built in 1881, and Le Ragge Ruggs/Cowgirls & Lace, a unique home decoration and gift store that draws customers from all over Texas. Hamilton Pool is located just ten miles from Dripping Springs. This natural, deep-water pool is part of the Travis County Park System and offers swimming, hiking, biking and picnicking facilities. About 15 miles west of Dripping Springs is Pedernales State Park, located on the banks of the scenic Pedernales River. Activities at the park include swimming, tubing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking and birdwatching.

Central Texas has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid, with prevailing winds from the Gulf of Mexico. Winters are mild and relatively dry. Snowfall is rare, but ice storms occur about once every two years or so. On average, central Texas receives 33.6 inches of rain per year, mostly in the spring and fall. Severe thunderstorms are also possible in the springtime. Tornadoes are a threat, especially in the springtime. Bright sunshine prevails, however, most of the time, with the area receiving nearly 2,650 hours of sun per year. The highest recorded temperature in central Texas was 112 F. on September 5, 2000. Summer highs exceed 100 degrees F. on an average of 18 days per year and exceed 90 degrees F. on 116 days per year.
