Johnson-City is located in Blanco County in central Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,361 people. It is mostly known for being the hometown of former U.S. President, Lyndon B. Johnson. It's also the hometown of actress Madeline Stowe. Located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park contains, and protects, the birthplace, home, ranch and gravesite of Lyndon B. Johnson, who was the 36th President of the United States. During Johnsons administration, the LBJ Ranch was known as the "Texas White House," because of the time spent there by President Johnson. The park has two distinct areas; Johnson City and the LBJ Ranch. In Johnson City, you'll find the National Park Visitor's Center, the boyhood home of President Johnson and the original log cabin that belonged to his grandparents. The second area of the park is about 14 miles west of Johnson City. This area contains the President's birthplace, his first school, the LBJ Ranch and the Johnson Family Cemetery, where President Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson are buried. Visitors can take a self-guided automobile tour from the visitor's center. A permit is required. Nearby attractions include Pedernales Falls State Park, about eight miles east of Johnson City. Located along the banks of the Pedernales River, it features beautiful waterfalls, fishing, swimming, camping, hiking, picnicking and horseback riding.
