Tyler
is located in Smith County in northeast Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 96,901. Tyler is near the city of Jacksonville and surrounded by the smaller cities of Whitehouse, Lindale, New Chapel Hill, Bullard, Edom, Brownsboro and Chandler. This beautiful city is called the "Rose Capital of the World," due to the large quantity of rose bushes in the area. It's also home to the nation's largest rose garden, and the annual Texas Rose Festival draws thousands of visitors each year. Other attractions in Tyler include a Rose Museum and several other local museums, historical homes, Caldwell Zoo and a waterpark just a few miles away at The Villages. Downtown Tyler has charming brick streets lined with antique shops and specialty stores. For culture, there's fine dining, art galleries, the ballet and the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. Other attractions nearby include Tyler State Park, which offers picnicking, camping, lake boating and fishing, birding, hiking, mountain biking, and swimming. Lake Tyler is located inside the park and includes five boat ramps and several public parks along the shoreline. The Lake Tyler Marina is located on Lake Tyler West, and charges a small fee to launch. All other launch sites are free. The East Texas State Fair is also held each year in Tyler. This city has something for everyone; historic sites, museums, outdoor recreation, shopping, dining - even haunted places.

Northeast Texas Piney Woods Region has a humid subtropical climate zone. This region receives more rainfall than any other region in the state - more than 60 inches annually. While coastal sections see the most cloudy days statewide, northern sections see the most sunny days. This area is prone to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, generally in the springtime. The heat of summer is intensified by high humidity. During winter and spring along the immediate coast, temperatures are kept cool by relatively cool Gulf waters. In late winter and early spring, dense fog, called advection fog, can form when warm air moves over the cool shelf waters. The region is also vulnerable to hurricanes, although plenty of warning is generally given for these types of storms.
